78 33' sport fish... Does anyone know if thing was an option of not, back in 1978? The house roof has a molded in mount step for this thing right next to the molded in mount step for the ladder. Reason for the inquiry, is that I would like to find the original parts and hardware to make this thing functional again if possible. If not I guess I could make something up to mount to the stamped holes at the top. Here is a pic that shows where the post is mounted right next to the ladder.

Brian,
Thanks for your input...It gives me a direction anyway. I'll post whatever I come up with.

Hey Mark,

You may try and find an old mast from a sabot or other type small sailboat. The old mast would be about the right size and should be made from a nice piece of wood. The hardware could be as simple as a couple of pulleys and a stout wire between the end of the boom and the post to keep the boom laid out horizontal. An old brass door hinge could be used to attach the boom to the post allowing the boom to fold up against the post. Let me know how it works out.

Cheers!

Hay, thanks for the response Brian. Finely got a hold of the PO, and you are correct in your assumption "post and boom". But unfortunately, "WE HAVE NO BOOM"....He states that it was in the boat "SOMEWHERE". You know I remember having this conversation with him back when I purchased the boat a little over a year ago, but actually getting it resolved never paned out. You know how you just forget about non-essential stuff sometimes? Anyway, this is a nice solid mahogany post with highly polished 316ss chafe guards and boom anchoring collar. I guess I'll have to put the brain to work and design the boom part from scratch... Bye the way.. PO states "that's how we hauled fish from the water".

Mark,

I have a '78 - 33' sport fisher and do not have the 4x4 post on mine that you show next to your ladder. I've also not seen this on any other Egg of our vintage. I believe this may have been used as a "post and boom" for lifting a small motor or similar item. I'd be careful that it does not interfere with your spreaders.

Also, the Sampson Post would be located on your bow behind the windlass and would not refer to the post next to your ladder.
