My Egg has hairline cracks throughout the foredeck and I suspect that they were caused by marina hands walking on the fro deck to secure winter cover. Am in the process of glassing the house from the trim under the windows to about 3" on the deck. When I removed the paint, could see the glass was actually cracked and not just the paint. Has anyone had any experience repairing the same? If so, would appreciate any heads up. Thanks

when we look at repair's of egg's,make sure you are talking abuot boat's of the same const. 1977 was last year for the deck to be skinned with one sheet of 9oz (cloth)and polyester resin.that is why egg's have **3 layer's of 1/4 in"plywood the first 2 are douglas fir and the last one(the top sheet )is mahonany.the reason for the last sheet to be mahogany is that it made a smooth finish ,that;s why they only needed 1 sheet of cloth if they used douglas fir much more work would be needed to make the finish that you see on the older egg's.A much different process on 1978 and newer egg's.I know it's A long story about A crack in gel coat but there are alot of thing's to know before you begin A project

You said when you removed the paint that you saw the fiberglass was cracked. Do you mean the crack extended into the fiberglass cloth itself or are you referring to a crack in the gelcoat? There's a big difference in what you should do depending on the answer. I would not remove the fiberglasss if the crack is just in the gelcoat.

I'm in the process of painting the house on my '78 33 and I have numerous hairline cracks in the gelcoat particularly around screwholes and other srtress points. I'm filling those in with fairing compound and then sanding and painting. That may be all you have to do if you're just dealing with the gelcoat.

the top layer of the deck is mahogany? it's not 100% plywood and then glassed over? I need to redo some sections of my foredeck and was always wondering what type of wood is up there.
