Don't do what I did.

spent an hour and a half cutting the old float switch out and tracing wiring all the way back to the ac/dc panel looking for a break in the current, only to find that the ac switches on the panel had been flipped to the off position regardless of their protective cover to prevent accidental tripping. Can still hear my fathers advise about the proper way to track down electrical problems, and that speech was given almost 30 years ago. What an idiot, and it took me several more minutes to rewire the old float switch that works just fine when there is current going to it.... If I'd had a sign that day it had been on my forehead.
