I've noticed thru the years that all the electronics in the boat that are hooked to a/c (not dc) seem to die periodically. My Battery charger(smart charger) has blown 3 times. My Tvs seem to go every 3 years or so.. and now my 4 year old Tundra refrigerator only runs on dc.. Wonder if lightning storms are doing these a/c device in. They are always plugged into power and always on.. is there a way to protect these devices.

Think my biggest problem is I'm on private dock with a 20amp wire that runs 100 feet thru the trees. If I was on a marina dock with 100's of boats loading down the circuit , it would be better. the only load on this wire is my boat.. going to buy a old style charger with minor complex electronics, just diodes and rectifiers and transformers, I can replace a diode...

I was hit by lightning twice in 2 days at my SSB antenna. Took out all of the electronics on 12V except the well grounded Furuno radar including stereo speaker cores. Lost nothing on the AC side except for the microwave clock.
Check and make certain that you are getting 120V at each of your appliances. You may show 120 coming in at the panel but, corrosion in your wiring could be reducing the voltage at the appliance. Good luck, Wayne |
