OK guys here is the problem. You can repower with gas BUT, yes you have to clean the tanks, (about 1K), replace the generator (about 10K) buy two new engines and trannys (28K) plus change the exhaust system, mufflers, intakes, reeingineer the engine beds. When you get done you are probably looking at about $60K with installation.

If they are detroits they do suck but can be completely rebuilt - new sleeves and pistons, bearings, turbo, intercooler, blower, and injectors for about $24K. I think I know what my choice would be.

I would suggest that you trade the diesels in as they have alot of value. and yes you could then put in gas engines, It may be more of a pain having to clean out the fuel tanks, I can see that being a problem.

Dewars....hmmm my kinda captain....spinach as side with my fish ... eye mattey

popeye if you are looking at 1990's 42 and found one with diesels that are no good and that would require you to repower, I would say "keep looking" because there is something very wrong, unless they were using the Egg for a tug boat. Diesel motors last way more than gas, and they actually require far less work than gas. You have to maintain and they will give you thousands of hours of running. But I guess that doesn't matter because you will be at the dock using the boat as a house. eye, a beer and some spinach!!!!!!!!!!!
